Who can fly a sightseeing flight? Children, weight, height, fear of heights

In short: Virtually anyone can fly a scenic flight over Warsaw—including children (under adult supervision), those with a fear of heights, and those prone to motion sickness (take a pill before the flight, just in case). We fly in a stable Cessna 172, calmly and smoothly—not a rollercoaster, but a gentle cruise at a comfortable altitude. The pilot decides on the conditions and, in unfavorable weather, will postpone the flight free of charge. Weight and height restrictions are based on the aircraft's balance and are determined individually when booking.

Children can fly a sightseeing flight under adult supervision – the pilot flies the same plane with his 6-year-old daughter.

The most common question before your first sightseeing flight isn't "how much does it cost"—it's "„Can I (or my child) fly at all?„"We're worried about our children, our weight, our heads spinning, our stomachs upset. It's natural. Below, we break down these fears—honestly, without beating around the bush, from the perspective of a pilot who flies his own family on the same plane.

Can a child fly on a sightseeing flight?

Yes, children can fly on a sightseeing flight if accompanied by an adult. It's one of the most frequently chosen gifts: a flight with mom, dad, or grandpa. For a child, it's often their first glimpse of the world from above—the Old Town, the Vistula River, and the PGE National Stadium, all modeled on a model.

The strongest argument we can give is personal: our pilot, Aleksander Domalewski, flies the same plane with his 6-year-old daughter (since she was 3 years old). No one puts their child in a machine they don't completely trust. This isn't a marketing slogan—it's the everyday practice of business owners.

  • Caregiver on board — a child always flies with an adult who is responsible for him or her.
  • Aviation headphones — included in the price, they protect your hearing and allow you to talk to the pilot and each other during the flight.
  • A calm, smooth flight — We fly gently, without any sudden maneuvers. This is an excursion, not an acrobatic maneuver.
  • The pilot has the final say — in unfavorable conditions, the flight is postponed free of charge.

For parents, something else is important: who to fly with. Aleksander Domalewski is a licensed pilot ATPL (Airline Transport Pilot License - the highest professional pilot license) who flies a business jet on a daily basis Embraer Praetor 600 around the world. Sightseeing flights are his passion, but his experience and discipline are the same as in commercial aviation.

Are there any weight restrictions?

Yes, there are weight limits – but not because of a „seat limit”, but because of the balance of the aircraft. Every small aircraft has a specific allowable weight and what's called a center of gravity. In aviation, we call this W&B (Weight & Balance): Before the flight, the pilot calculates the weight of the crew, passengers, luggage and fuel so that the machine is safely balanced.

What does this mean in practice for you?

  • Our Cessna 172 takes up to 3 passengers (plus pilot) - total passenger weight matters.
  • If the group is larger, sometimes a different seating configuration or fewer people on a given flight is the solution.
  • There is no hard and fast „line” at which we say „no.”. We determine specific values individually when booking - just provide the weight of the passengers and we will select a safe option.

In other words, rather than publishing a single numerical limit that could unnecessarily exclude someone, we prefer to calculate this specifically for your flight. Let us know when booking—it's a standard, routine part of preparing for every flight.

Does height matter?

Growth is rarely a problem — The Cessna 172's cabin comfortably accommodates adult passengers. As with weight, any issues related to passenger placement (for comfort and balance) are discussed individually when booking. Tall passengers can fly comfortably—just mention it and we'll select the most comfortable seat.

When traveling with very young children, our primary concerns are safety and comfort—and here, too, it's best to simply let us know who you plan to bring along. We'll find the best solution.

I'm afraid of heights - can I do it?

Yes - and this may sound surprising, but fear of heights usually does not prevent you from flying. Fear of heights (acrophobia) most often triggers when we stand on a ledge and feel a direct connection to the ground—a balcony, a ladder, the edge of the roof. In an airplane, this connection is absent. You're sitting in a closed, stable cabin, and the ground is "somewhere far away"—the brain perceives this very differently than standing on a precipice.

Many people who are afraid to climb an observation tower actually feel great in the air. Why?

  • Stability. The Cessna 172 is one of the safest and most stable aircraft in aviation history, with over 44,000 built. Its flight is smooth and predictable.
  • It's not a rollercoaster. We fly calmly, at a comfortable altitude, without sudden descents or sharp turns. We focus on the views, not the adrenaline rush.
  • Full pilot control. At the controls is an ATPL pilot with thousands of hours in the air. You always know what's going on—you can ask questions through the headset.
  • You can look wherever you want. If the first glance straight down is too much for you, look at the horizon and the city skyline – it naturally calms you down.

If you still feel anxious, let the pilot know before takeoff. This is a common occurrence, and we know how to conduct the flight so you feel comfortable.

Many passengers who were apprehensive about the flight come down to earth with a huge smile.

What if I get motion sickness?

Susceptibility to motion sickness does not preclude flying — and the gentle nature of a sightseeing flight works to your advantage. We fly calmly and smoothly, without any sudden maneuvers that often cause nausea. Shorter options (15 or 30 minutes) are an added bonus if you're feeling uneasy.

Some practical tips if you know you tend to be sensitive:

  • Choose shorter flight option (15 minutes) to start.
  • Take a motion sickness pill if you are concerned
  • Look at the horizon and distant points (city panorama), and not on close objects below.
  • Don't fly on a completely empty stomach or on a very full stomach – a light meal 1-2 hours before your flight works best.
  • If you normally take motion sickness tablets, take them as directed by the manufacturer before your flight.
  • Tell the pilot - we can make the flight even smoother.

Why a Cessna Flight Is Relaxed, Not Extreme

Many fears stem from the perception that a small plane is all about "shaking and falling." In reality, a sightseeing flight is one of the most peaceful ways to spend time in the air. Here's why you can feel safe:

  • A proven machine. We are flying a Cessna 172 Reims Rocket with the callsign SP-OKS, with a Continental IO-360 engine with a power of 210 hp, after a general overhaul in 2019 - it is the best equipped example of this type in Poland.
  • Certified carrier. We operate based on AOC PL-076 (Air Operator Certificate) issued by the Civil Aviation Authority. We are the only certified AOC carrier in Warsaw for Cessna sightseeing flights.
  • Professional technical service. We perform inspections in accordance with standards EASA, and the service is provided by CAMO Part-145. Insurance meets AOC requirements.
  • The decision rests with the pilot. If conditions are unsafe, the flight will be rescheduled free of charge. Safety always comes before timing.

Are there weight restrictions on a sightseeing flight?

Yes, they are based on the aircraft's weight and balance. However, there is no hard and fast limit that excludes anyone—specific values are determined individually at the time of booking, based on passenger weight. The Cessna 172 can accommodate up to three passengers plus the pilot.

Does height matter on a sightseeing flight?

Rarely. The Cessna 172's cabin comfortably accommodates adult passengers, including taller individuals. Any passenger arrangement on board (for comfort and balance) is determined individually when booking—just mention it.

I'm afraid of heights - can I take a sightseeing flight?

Yes. A fear of heights doesn't usually prevent you from flying because you're in a stable, enclosed cabin, without the direct contact with the ground that can trigger acrophobia. The Cessna 172 is a very stable aircraft, and the flight is calm and smooth—not a rollercoaster. If you feel anxious, tell the pilot before takeoff.

Does motion sickness preclude a sightseeing flight?

No. A scenic flight is gentle and smooth, without any sudden, nausea-inducing maneuvers. Choosing the shorter option (15 minutes), looking at the horizon, a light meal 1-2 hours before the flight, and any motion sickness pills may help. The pilot can guide the flight even more calmly.
